Warming up Into the Weekend!

Good Afternoon!

Today has been an absolutely wonderful day across southern Kentucky. Temperatures have warmed into the lower 40s as of 1:30 this afternoon. The winds this afternoon, while not quite as gusty as yesterday have been in the 5-10 mph range with gusts going to near 15 mph.

Afternoon temperatures across the state were mostly in the upper 30s to low 40s, while areas toward Louisville were still hovering around the freezing mark. With the Shelby County site setting at 32° at 1:30.

There were some high clouds over the area that quickly made their way out of southern Kentucky. Places off to the north closer to Louisville saw clouds move out just a little bit later which has not allowed their temperatures to warm quite as much as we have here in southern Kentucky.

Looking toward the weekend, we will be seeing a decent warm-up. Temperatures will warm up into the mid to upper 60s to near 70°. Along with that there will be an increase in rain chances, with some thunderstorms also being possible. It is to early to tell if we will see any chances of severe weather, but i will have the latest here on the blog as we approach the weekend. The good news here is that the entire weekend doesn't look to be a complete washout!

Will this warm-up be long term? As we approach the weekend I will have a better idea as to exactly how strong the cold front moving through Sunday Afternoon will be. But otherwise enjoy the warmer weather while it lasts!

Forecast:

Tonight: Clear skies and cold, winds out of the west at 5-10 mph. Low: 25°

Tomorrow:
Mostly sunny and warmer, with winds out of the west becoming calm near    mid-day. High: 46°

Tomorrow Night: Mostly cloudy skies with a 20% chance of showers and winds out of the southeast at 3-5 mph. Low: 35°

Brief Warm-Up Coming!

Good Evening!

Temperatures across the region this morning were the coldest we have seen all year! For the most part low temperatures were in the mid teens, but some places fell into the lower teens with some places falling into the single digits. Check out that 2° reading found in Henderson County. This would have been enhanced by the higher amounts of snowpack found along the river.

High temperatures across southern Kentucky were not able to reach the 30° mark as most areas struggled to even reach the upper 20s. Tonight will be yet another cold night as most of the region will fall back into the middle teens, with some places closer to the snowpack falling into the lower teens.

We will see a brief warming trend over the next few days as we will see high temperatures rise back into the 40s tomorrow and maybe into the 50s this weekend. This warm-up will be brief though, as we will see another cold shot early next week.

We should be able to remain dry over the next few days with partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies dominating the region through Thursday. There will be one shot of precipitation on Friday and Friday night, but it is too early to say how much. I will have more details as we get closer.

Forecast:

Tonight: Mostly clear and cold with winds out of the south at 5-10 mph. Low:17°

Tomorrow: Mostly clear skies with winds out of the southwest at 10-20 mph. High:45°

Tomorrow Night: Partly Cloudy skies with winds out of the west at 5-10 mph. Low:25°

Broken Record Forecast!

Good Afternoon!

The forecast over the last few days has sounded like a broken record! We have been experiencing weather that we would typically see in the month of July. This pattern has caused our temperatures to be quite warmer than what we had been seeing with highs consistently reaching the 90° mark.

Of course tomorrow we will see WKU open up the football season with our first game of the year against Bowling Green State University. Temperatures will be hot once again so you will need to stay hydrated if you are out tailgating before the game. But the good news is that rain chances are very slim!

The question that is on almost everyone's mind is whether or not there is any relief in sight from these temperatures, and this time i have some good news to bring! A weather maker will push into the area this weekend. While the entire weekend will not be wet, it certainly looks like we will see some rainfall this weekend. After the rain this weekend temperatures will come down for a little while with highs in the low 80s

Forecast:

Tonight: Isolated thunderstorms, otherwise partly cloudy skies. Low: 70°

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny with south winds 5-10 mph. High: 91°

Tomorrow Night: Partly cloudy with a light south wind. Low: 70°

Hot, Hot, Hot!

Good Afternoon!

Today was another really hot day across the area as temperatures reached the 90° mark once again! Relief may be in sight, I will have more on that later in the post.

High temperatures will be in the upper 80s to the low 90s for the next few days before our next weather maker moves into the area during the second half of. the weekend. This weather maker will bring with it the chance for some heavy rain, particularly on Sunday.

Beyond this rain chance we will see our temperatures take a tumble into the low 80s for a couple of days. But long term it looks like they won't stay that way as the summer like pattern will continue.

Forecast:

Tonight: Partly cloudy skies with a northeast wind around 5 mph. Low: 72°

Tomorrow:  Isolated showers and thunderstorms otherwise mostly sunny. High: 93°

Tomorrow Night: Partly cloudy with light winds. Low: 70°

Heat Continues!

Good Evening!

Today was yet another hot day across the region with high temperatures near the 90° mark. But if we factored in the humidity it felt like it was close to the 100° mark. So the question that is on everybody's mind is whether or not we have any relief to the hot temperatures on the way!

Over the next couple of days it doesn't look like any relief will be coming. High temperatures will continue to be in the low 90s, and heat indices will be near 100°. The good news is throughout the rest of this week there will be the possibility of an isolated shower or thunderstorm popping up in the afternoon, while this wont bring any long term relief it will help to cool us down briefly!

Day 1-3 QPF Via WPC

Above is the day 1-3 Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) which shows a raw prediction of how much precipitation will fall over a certain time period. So the graphic confirms the fact that our area's rain chances will be slim over the next 3 days.

Forecast:

Tonight: Mostly clear skies with calm winds. Low: 70°

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny with a light north wind around 5 mph. High: 93°

Tomorrow Night: A light north wind under partly cloudy skies. Low: 71°
